EXPANDING WATERMEDIA BOUNDARIES, PAINTING AND COLLAGE with Dale Laitinen.  In this 3 day workshop participants will use watercolor, gesso, and collage materials and experiment with abstraction to expand their way of thinking about watermedia.  The workshop starts with transparent watercolor and builds surfaces and space relationships to make exciting paintings.  Students will expand their creative thinking and explore the use of materials in new ways.  Gesso is used to create opaque layers and surface texture, and collage is used to dramatically change design and create interesting painting surfaces.  Give your creative and problem solving mind a chance to stretch, and join us for this exciting experience.

Dale Laitinen is best known for his watercolor paintings of the mountains and deserts of the Western United States. He is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society and Watercolor West. Laitinen has conducted workshops throughout the United States and in France. He lives and works in Mountain Ranch, California.

OIL PASTELS, A STUDY OF POSSIBILITY with Doug Lawler.  This workshop will explore the exciting and limitless possibilities of working with Oil Pastels.  The instructor will walk students through the composition of the medium and various application techniques, while helping students understand the complexities of color and ways to “coax” images from layers of oil pastels.  He will also help students turn on their creative juices by helping them discover non-conventional ways of thinking about the act of creation!

Doug Lawler is best known for his copper plate etching prints and his pastel works of art.  His career has taken him all over the world where his work has been exhibited in galleries and honored with awards, including San Francisco where he helped found a print-making collective, and Barcelona, Spain where he worked and exhibited in galleries for over 12 years.  For a time he worked as a free-lance fine arts conservator at the Oakland Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the San Francisco Palace of Legion of Honor Museum.  In recent years he’s made a return to creating art in pastel and printmaking.

No Materials List – All supplies are provided by the instructor and included in the registration and materials fee.
